Head of Media and Publications

Job Purpose:
The Head of Media and Publications will lead a team in the strategic planning and creative development of materials and publications (electronic, print, web-based, etc.) to promote awareness and understanding of RasGas and its work, both internally and externally. S/he is accountable for team deadlines, deliverables and responsibilities.
Key Result Areas:
• Departmental alignment with corporate business plan and marketing objectives.
• Analyzing the short and long-term needs of the company with regard to media and publications and developing a strategic plan to meet those needs (in collaboration with the Public Affairs Manager and other departments).
• Providing leadership to the Media and Publications staff and creating/maintaining a supportive team environment where individual members are encouraged to do their best work.
• Support and development of company Crisis Management objectives.
• Managing the development and production of high quality, creative materials to meet the company’s needs, utilising electronic media, print publications and web-based materials, including but not limited to the RasGas Magazine, RasGas corporate profile, RasGas website, Spectrum monthly newsletter, departmental brochures, speeches, presentations, corporate presentations, documentary films, RasGas corporate television advertisements and periodical reports.
• Building relationships, as directed by the Public Affairs Manager, with internal and external audiences.
• Developing and gaining approval of the Public Affairs Manager for the work plan and budget of the Media and Publications Section.
• As directed by the Public Affairs Manager, coordinating and working with other RasGas departments to identify interdependencies and ensure they have the publications and collaterals needed for special events such as tours, photo exhibitions, and competitions.
• Negotiating and managing contracts with consultants, suppliers and vendors performing work for the Media and Publications Section.
• Attending meetings, conferences and forums as directed by the Public Affairs Manager.
• Providing materials and support during VIP and delegation visits as requested by the Public Affairs Manager.
• Providing regular updates and progress reports to the Public Affairs Manager regarding the goals and objectives of the Media and Publications Section.
• Preparation of tender documents for Media and Publications projects including major RasGas projects such as stone foundation ceremonies, ship launches and project inaugurations.
• Development and implementation of media advertising plans in line with company objectives.
• Managing and developing Media and Publications Section document and electronic archive system including RasGas photo archive.
• Management of Media and Publications Section business continuity programme.
Operating Environment, Framework and Boundaries:
• Works in a fairly well structured environment where guidelines are clear but procedures are continuing to develop.
• Needs to work effectively in a complex multi-national, multi-cultural environment.
• Due to the nature of Public Affairs projects, some out of work hours may be required.
Communications and Working Relationships:
Internal
Daily contact with the Public Affairs Manager and regular contact with other RasGas Departments as needed. Daily coordination and management of the Media and Publications staff.
External
Frequent contact with managers, customers, contractors, suppliers, visitors, government offices, similar public relations departments in other companies, especially shareholder companies, e.g. Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil, under the supervision of the Public Relations Manager.
Problem Solving/Complexity:
High level of complexity involved as this position requires strategic thinking and analysis in the planning process and in message development. It also requires innovation and creativity in the design and production of publications in multiple formats. Additionally, it requires the ability to build and manage relationships with internal and external audiences and to help resolve conflicts that sometimes arise due to cultural differences.
Decision Making Authority and Responsibility:
Responsible for directing, assigning work and evaluating all Media and Publications Section staff, in collaboration with Public Affairs Manager. For all duties, reports to and is supervised by Public Affairs Manager who must approve all completed work.
Knowledge Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor Degree in communications, marketing, business or other related field from a recognised university.
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible work experience in communications field.
• At least three years work experience in a multi-national, multi-cultural environment.
• Experience related to the oil and gas industry preferred.
• Experience working in the Arabian Gulf, with an understanding of its culture and work practices.
• Strong strategic planning and analysis skills.
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with others.
• Strong management skills with experience managing and mentoring staff.
• Experience developing work plans and budgets.
• Thorough understanding of Public Relations concepts and practices.
• Highly organised and efficient.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks at once and meet deadlines without sacrificing attention to detail.
• Able to convey a strong professional image and exhibit a positive attitude.
• High level of personal integrity.
• Advanced PC software operating skills including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and others.
• Exceptional written and spoken English language skills (native English speaker preferred).
• Arabic language an advantage.
