Key Result Areas:
• Liaises and networks with local, regional and international media correspondents for the release and publication of press articles covering RasGas events and activities.
• Plans, develops, prepares and disseminates public information releases and reports.
• Ability to translate releases and reports as required from English to Arabic and Arabic to English.
• Ability to research international publications and make media advertising recommendations based on company requirements
• Plans and organises company media events, e.g. press conferences, round table discussions etc.
• Compiles and disseminates RasGas information kits to press at various events.
• Coordinates with his counterparts in the Company’s affiliated companies (QP/ExxonMobil, etc) on all press and communications related matters.
• Drafts and assists with the effective writing of all material relevant to media and press communications.
• Supports the execution of targeted promotional and advertising campaigns.
• Following the approved RasGas advertising campaign prepares and distributes media advertising.
• Conducts research, prepares and directs information effectively to accurately interpret and translate the Company’s business plans, policies and over-all strategy.
• Maintains and updates company media database including coverage of various events.
• Compilation of media reports on a monthly or yearly basis for distribution to management.
• Maintains contact with senior editors and opinion makers.
• Media monitoring, scans relevant local, regional and international media for reports relevant to company business and interests and forwards them to relevant company officers.
• Experience of the role of media in a crisis management situation would be an advantage.
Operating Environment, Framework and Boundaries:
Operates in a small team within a well-structured multi-culture environment with a clear reporting framework and extensive communication with the Head of Media and Publications and the Public Affairs Manager.
Department policies, procedures and guidelines are in place.
All media releases must be approved by management and the legal department prior to release.
Communications and Working Relationships:
Daily meetings and/or communication with the Head of Media and Publications and other team members to discuss related issues and plan short and long term objectives.
Informal and flexible working relationship with Head of Media and Publications and other team members where viewpoints and ideas are openly discussed. Strong team working relationship.
Frequent contact with senior management to acquire approval for media releases and reports.
Frequent contact with all departments to prepare and disseminate press releases and news stories.
Problem Solving/Complexity:
Manages the preparation, translation and dissemination of media reports in accordance with given deadlines without compromising the high quality and standards expected by the company.
The job holder requires a pleasant disposition, public relations, networking, planning and target delivery skills.
Decision Making Authority and Responsibility:
Implements the Company’s media and public relations policy as specified by management and board.
Flexibility is essential as many arrangements may be required at short notice.
Head of Media and Publications provides direction and support but allows flexibility for self planning to achieve goals and targets.
Knowledge Skills and Experience:
• A university degree preferably in journalism, mass communications, public relations, media relations or related fields.
• Excellent verbal and written English and Arabic skills, additional languages an advantage
• Five to seven years experience in journalism, public relations, advertising, preferable in a similar work environment (media relations in oil and gas companies)
• Computer literate.
