Head of Transmission Operation & Maintenance

Core Functions

• Overall administration and management of the Transmission Operation and Maintenance Section.
• To update, develop and maintain the Transmission Network comprising of 33kV to 220kV underground Cables, 66kV to 220kV Transmission overhead lines, and Transmission Primary Substations(220/132kV, 220/66kV, 132/66kV, 132/33kV and 66/11kV).
• Review and comments on document transmittals referred by Technical Affairs and Electricity Network Planning.

Major Duties and Responsibilities


1. Manages the smooth administration and the activities of Operations and Maintenance Section.

2. Improves system reliability while minimizing costs.

3. Prepares rolling plan for a period of 5 years for the Section.

4. Provides guidance for outage response and restoration.

5. Implements immediate rectification of system faults to minimize breakdown periods.

6. Reviews and advises on drawings and documents of Turn Key transmission projects from planning stage to taking-over, guaranteeing that they comply with specifications and safety rules and regulations.

7. Approves Maintenance Contract Claims for payment.

8. Liaises with other division/Heads on Annual Budgeting.

9. Administration of Contract maintenance Works.

10. Maintains stock level of spare parts for emergency replacements.

11. Performs any other related duties as instructed by the immediate supervisor

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervises the Senior Engineers/Engineers in the Section.

Qualification Requirements: (Minimum Requirements)
Education & Training (e.g. BS in Electrical Engineering, post-secondary secretarial training, etc) :

B. Sc. in Electrical Engineering Degree (full time course) from a recognized University.

Job Experience (e.g.: 5-year experience in the relevant field of work)

Minimum of 15 years of experience in the field of Power Transmission equipment at voltage level of 11kV to 220kV.
Knowledge of installation, operation and maintenance of 220kV, 132kV, 66kV and 33kV substations, underground cables and overhead lines.
Knowledge of International Standards/Specifications.
Knowledge of General Conditions of Contract, Safety Rules and Regulations.
Decision making, Managerial communication and interpersonal skills.

Nature of Supervision Received
(e.g. very close where supervision and instructions are continually provided in every step of the work/process and the outcome of the work is inspected/reviewed; or work is reviewed in conformance to established guidelines/procedures; or, operates under broad policy guidelines; etc.)

Work is reviewed to established procedures.

Applicable Guidelines / Manuals Required

Operations and Maintenance Manuals and As-built Drawings supplied by the Contractors/Manufacturers.
KAHRAMA’A Safety Rules and Regulations, and System Operations Memoranda.
International Standards(IEC, BS, etc.) .

(e.g. telephone contact to gather information/data; coordinate/arrange...etc.)

Maintenance Contractor's personnel for execution of contracts, various Bulk Consumers such as QASCO, QAPCO, QAFAC, etc. and GAS processing and distributor (QP) & QEWC, with consent of the higher authorities of KAHRAMA'A.
24 hrs. direct contact with the management of Generation, Distribution, Projects and other Utility Companies.

Physical Requirements
Physical Demand of the Work

A high degree of mental efforts is required where a cool head is necessary under stressful emergency situations.

Work Environment

Generally air-conditioned indoor work environment, and electrically live environment site work.

• Requires extensive traveling between venues/depots during normal and or outside office hours.
• Requires mobile communication while on duty outside the office.
• Requires mobile communication outside normal office hours for emergency purposes.
