Senior Engineer (Substation)

Core Functions
Responsible for the reliable performance of Transmission Primary Substations.
Recommends/advises the Head of Operation & Maintenance on technical matters related to Substation.
Plans, organizes and coordinates annual substation maintenance works by department staff/contractors in scheduled time period.
Allocates work, guides and supports Substation engineers and supervisors.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Manages day to day activities of Substation Unit.
2. Plans substation maintenance work.
3. Prepares work program for Substation Engineers and supervisors.
4. Prepares reports, correspondence, and spares & budget requirements for Substation
5. Prepares scope of works, specifications and evaluations for outsourced related works, and purchases.
6. Attends regular meetings within the department and coordination meetings with other organizations within and outside KAHRAMA'A.
7. Conducts regular meetings with Substation engineers and maintenance contractors to review progress of work activities and to program future works.
8. Monitors quality of work execution, progress and completion schedule of maintenance contracts.
9. Verifies and recommends contractor's claims for payments.
10. Reviews and comments on document transmittals from Technical Affairs and Electricity Network Planning for new Projects works and various technical matters.
11. Carries-out switching operations for maintenance and breakdown repair works when required.
12. Organizes and coordinates with Contractors on Defect Clearance of new projects
13. Guides and assists substation engineers as and when required.
14. Trains and develops new Qatari engineers towards targeted positions.
15. Studies system abnormality and recommends necessary actions.
16. Performs standby duty when required.
17. Performs other related duties as needed upon request by immediate supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervises substation engineers and supervisors.
Qualification Requirements: (Minimum Requirements)
Education & Training (e.g. BS in Electrical Engineering, post-secondary secretarial training, etc) :
B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering Degree (full time course) from a recognized university.
Job Experience (e.g.: 5-year experience in the relevant field of work)
Knowledge in maintenance techniques of Transmission Primary substations.
Good managerial skills and maturity of judgment.
Minimum 15 years experience in the construction, operation and maintenance of Primary substations at voltage levels of 220kV, 132kV, 66kV, 33kV and 11kV.
Additional experience in Project and Planning.
Nature of Supervision Received
(e.g. very close where supervision and instructions are continually provided in every step of the work/process and the outcome of the work is inspected/reviewed; or work is reviewed in conformance to established guidelines/procedures; or, operates under broad policy guidelines; etc.)
Work is reviewed to established procedures.
Applicable Guidelines / Manuals Required
KAHRAMA'A Maintenance Code of Practice, Safety Rules, and System Operation Memoranda.
Operation and Maintenance Manuals supplied by the Contractors/Manufacturers.
International Standards (e.g. IEC, BS, etc.)

Maintenance contractor personnel for execution of contracts.
Contacts with other organizations/bulk consumers for coordination purposes on Project and maintenance related works.
Physical Requirements
Physical Demand of the Work
Shall be fit for carrying-out switching works and administration jobs.
Work Environment
Normal comfortable office and electrically live environment site work

• Must pass the Senior Authorization Test administered by Transmission Department.
• Good technical knowledge.
• Leadership quality to lead a team of professionals.
• Fluent in English, correspondence and presentation skill.
• Futuristic vision on ever improving technology and ability to adopt the right one to the betterment of KAHRAMA'A system.
• Computer literate.
• Requires extensive traveling between venues/depots during normal and or outside office hours.
• Requires mobile communication while on duty outside the office.
• Requires mobile communication outside normal office hours for emergency purposes.
