Senior Engineer (System & Energy Planning)

Core Functions
• Assure the quality power system operation, and performance. Define, calculate system performance indicators, measures, and operation planning criteria.
• Prepare work plans for operation planning activities and monitor its work progress
• Achieve integrity of security and economics of power system operation, and apply best operation planning methodologies
• Establish system operation information system, and create system operation reports.
• Conduct system operational studies and operational plans. And perform post fault analysis and studies. Update system parameters and documentation reports.
• Participate of corporte transmission and generation addtion development for the issues related to operation and power purchse agreements.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Closely monitor system performance in generation, transmission, distribution, and protection against a well defined measures and indicators, to identify the violation of quality standards.(voltage quality and different reliability levels and indices ). And review system performance in accordance to international standards.
• Perform a periodic network performance studies and issue result reports.
• Perform pre-fault and post-fault analysis to highlight weakness of operation performance, and issues the necessary reports to the concerned parties to take the corrective actions. Do post incident management draft reports in collaboration with other parties
• Establish and update system operation planning, measures, indicators and planning criteria.
• Co-ordinate, comment, and participate in joint activities with transmission planning, generation planning departments. This shall include any process related to planning standards and system expansion processes after consolation and approval of H.O.S.C..
• Prepare actual and forecasts of system energy accounting and energy accounting reports. in future this activities will include interconnection transaction evaluation and accounting
• Prepare, maintain and revise all system operation reports, design its format and create a historical database for system data for analysis and retrieval,.
• Establish, update, and maintain information system inline with overall KAHRA MAA information and technology standards this shall include historical reporting recording and other system operation statistical data required for quality assurance and management.
• Check energy purchase bills after verification.
• Prepare energy purchase allocation plans that optimize year average purchase cost.
Detailed tasks are:
• Operation planning
Co-ordinates, comment, and participate in joint activities with transmission planning, generation planning, and other departments. Preparation Modeling and modifying long term load forecasts. Check and modify generating unit’s parameters and modeling. Coordinate with generation planning regarding yearly outage plan. Prepare estimates of planed production costs. Prepare year guideline study for generation, transmission outage possibilities based on system information database.
• Information System and Reports
Load Forecast reports. Post fault Analysis reports. Annual System Operation Report.
Energy accounting reports.
• System Quality and Reliability Performance
Monitor system reliability levels at generation, transmission and distribution system. Propose system performance indicators
and operation planning criteria. Monitor performance of system protection. Keep track of power quality violation and issue the
necessary warnings and reports. Conduct short circuit analysis at deferent system configuration and condition.
Perform post fault analysis.
• Performs other related duties as needed upon request by the immediate supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervises Operations Planning Engineer and Energy Billing Engineer
Qualification Requirements: (Minimum Requirements)
Education & Training (e.g. BS in Electrical Engineering, post-secondary secretarial training, etc) :
B.Sc. Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering Degree (full time course) from a recognized University
Job Experience (e.g.: 5-year experience in the relevant field of work)
• At least 7 years experience in Power utilities especially in SCADA based energy management system.
• Strong knowledge of power system operations and economics and power systems application software, preferably EMP1.5
energy management system on Open VMS platform.
Nature of Supervision Received
(e.g. very close where supervision and instructions are continually provided in every step of the work/process and the outcome of the work is inspected/reviewed; or work is reviewed in conformance to established guidelines/procedures; or, operates under broad policy guidelines; etc.)

• Has good planning ,analytical and reporting skills.
• Able to work under time pressure to provide timely analysis and reports.
• Able to be on call during emergence for providing information and conduct post fault analysis reports.
• This position requires mobile communication while on duty outside the office
• Requires to travel between venues/depots during normal and or outside office hours.
• Requires mobile communication while on duty outside the office.
• Requires mobile communication outside normal office hours for emergency purposes.
• Fluent in English (read/write/speak)
