Core Functions

• Complete responsibility of the unit for the best performance for KAHRAMAA Protection system
• Over all Responsibility of the Protection and system analysis software.
• Over all responsibility of Review and comments on protection design documents for projects and coordination with technical affairs

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervising the unit for the best performance for the benefit of KAHRAMAA.
• Represent the unit in meetings and give creative recommendation based on the system study reports.
• Monitors the performance of Protection software. Functions including relay co ordination, fault level calculation and impedance measurements.
• Implement the change of network configuration, topology and new substations added etc in to the software model and updating.
• Update the software it self with the new updates available from the vendor.
• Train the protection engineers to use the software for daily applications.
• Release setting updates on yearly basis with the latest information available about the system.
• Release emergency setting recommendations on immediate system changes.
• Issue protection recommendations on any system topology changes requested.
• Keep records of yearly setting updates soft and hard copies.
• Coordinate with Technical affairs regarding all new project design matters
• Review and comment Project Protection drawings
• Review and approval of CT/VT sizing calculation submittals
• Review and approval of Relay settings
• Review and approval of Signal list
• Review of Protection philosophy based on system requirements and BCR’s during planning stages.
• Issue protection inputs for Project scope preparations

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervise the unit , Protection Engineers ( Designs & System Analysis)

Qualification Requirements: (Minimum Requirements)
Education & Training (e.g. BS in Electrical Engineering, post-secondary secretarial training, etc) :

B.Sc. Electrical Engineering /Additional Management Qualifications preferred

Job Experience (e.g.: 5-year experience in the relevant field of work)

15 Years in a utilities environment, with experience in network study, relay coordination and protection document designs.

Nature of Supervision Received
(e.g. very close where supervision and instructions are continually provided in every step of the work/process and the outcome of the work is inspected/reviewed; or work is reviewed in conformance to established guidelines/procedures; or, operates under broad policy guidelines; etc.)

Head of Protection Section , operates under broad policy guidelines

Applicable Guidelines / Manuals Required

Systems guidelines and guidelines as prescribed by the profession

Medically Fit.

Work Environment

100% office and A/C environment, If required need to different substation sites.

Other Significant Requirements
(e.g. Knowledge Skills & Abilities, e.g. able to read, write & speak English as a second language)

o Considerable experience Power system Protection in power utilities
o Considerable experience in Protection relay coordination and System Study Software
o Good knowledge of Management tools and skills to manage the unit.
o Good knowledge of programming software and good data base application skill
o Good in English (S,R and W)
o Analytical ability
