Al Ain Hospital, formerly known as Al Jimi Hospital, has 461 beds. The General Authority for Health Services for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is working to increase the hospital capacity to 500 beds, with a view of maintaining the hospital position as the major institute in Al Ain city, where the medical staffs are performing their duties in all medical fields.
In addition to the Emergency and Accidents (E/A) Services, Al Ain Hospital provides its services to national and expatriate residents of the city and its suburbs. It also serves as an educational institution for UAE University's medical and science students. The hospital further serves as a training source for physicians seeking membership in Arab and British associations in different specializations. Both Al Ain and Tawam Hospitals are considered to be the major hospitals in the Al Ain Medical District, covering an area of 11,750 kms with a population of more than 325,000 people. The total number of machines existing in each department is: 86 machines for the department of nuclear medicine and x-radiation used for tumors treatment; 95 machines for the department of the heart intensive care; 83 machines for the emergencies department and 98 for the central purification department.
They provide medical services in collaboration and integration with two other small hospitals, as well 21 primary health care centers, a preventive medicine complex, school health center, and a number of other specialized centers. This collaboration and integration is exercised by transferring of patients through different units when necessary. Al Ain Hospital comprises of 22 departments, which include Accident and Emergency, Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Surgery, Dermatology, ENT, General Surgery, Dental Surgery, Laboratory Analysis, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Facial Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Hematology, Oncology, X-ray, Psychiatry, Plastic Surgery, Venereal Diseases, Pediatrics, Pharmacology & Neurosurgery.
