EXPLORATION
HEAD OF CLIENT SERVICES
Job Outline
Provide strategic management of the Data Archive Division. Plan, coordinate and implement the creation and maintenance of accessible, secure and retrievable records archives of well, geophysical and spatial data to meet the needs of OGV management, geoscientists and Joint Venture partners. Provide drawing services for scanning, cartography, reprography, draughting and document designing.
Essential Experience and Expertise
- Must have expert Knowledge of deployment of data management and related software and databases for geosciences and petroleum engineering.
- Must have 15+ years experience working with an oil company or service contractor, 10+ years in technical management with 5+ years in E&P data management or subsurface data management.
- Must have experience in managing resources, contracts, budgets, work plans, product agreements and service level agreements.
- Must have strong teamwork skills, and it would be an advantage to have experience in working in a multicultural environment and managing senior technical staff.
- Must be able to work effectively with peers and management. Must enjoy communicating with customers at all levels and providing a professional service.
- Must possess the professional integrity to uphold the interests of QP at all times including safeguarding valuable, irreplaceable data.
- Must be able to use technical knowledge, expertise and experience to mentor, encourage and develop less experienced staff.
- Must have a BSc in a Geoscience discipline. Must have a post graduate qualification in IT applications in Earth Sciences.
- Must have experience of developing and implementing policies and procedures for organising archival records and development of classification systems to facilitate access of archival material.
Desirable Experience and Expertise
- Desirable to have some knowledge of drawing services - scanning, cartography, reprography, draughting and document designing.
- Desirable to have knowledge of the interpretation/analysis environment of geoscientists and petroleum engineers.
HEAD OF EXPLORATION STUDIES
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Experience)
The incumbent should hold a M.Sc degree in Geology/Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, or equivalent. Postgraduate qualification (Ph.D.) in a relevant discipline is preferred. A comprehensive training in all Petroleum relevant disciplines is essential. Membership of a relevant Professional Institution and Chartered / Professional Engineer status is desirable. At least 15 years experience in a broad range of Exploration Geoscience and Petroleum Engineering functions with a proven track record of leading a multi-disciplinary team is required, with a minimum of 5 years experience in a lead or supervisory position. Should have a high level of experience in exploration with a broad spread of theoretical and practical experience. This should include significant experience in the application of fundamental petroleum engineering principles in exploration and appraisal evaluation.
Primary Purpose of the Job
A multi-disciplinary technical team leader, ensures a sound balance between discipline-based and integrated activities. Ensures that the efforts of the highly skilled staff under the incumbent’s direction are concentrated on activities with the highest impact on decision making and resource value. Through proactive supervision, ensures that Qatar’s all potential hydrocarbon leads and prospects are identified and defined. Monitors and guides all exploration studies including in-house, joint and IOC/Contractor studies and associated cost. Works jointly with Exploration & Development PSA companies in optimizing exploration and appraisal plans. Organises and supervises internal reviews and studies to ensure that the exploration of resources is carried out in a prudent and technically sound manner.
HEAD OF EXPLORATION OPERATIONS
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Experience)
The incumbent should hold a B.Sc. degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geology or equivalent. Postgraduate qualification (M.Sc. / Ph.D.) in a relevant discipline is preferred. A comprehensive training in all relevant Petroleum disciplines is essential. Membership of a relevant Professional Institution and Chartered / Professional Engineer status is desirable. At least 15 years experience in a broad range of Petroleum Engineering and Exploration operation functions with a proven track record of leading a multi-disciplinary team is required, with a minimum of 5 years experience in a lead or supervisory position. SENIOR EXPLORATION GEOLOGIST
Primary Purpose of the Job
To monitor, control and supervise the geological activities of foreign oil companies working in Qatar. To undertake exploration geological responsibilities related to the Corporation’s exploration/activities in the retained and granted acreage. To be the focal point for liaising geological matters with various bodies, both inside and outside Qatar, engaged or otherwise involved in exploration activities. To carry out independent studies and to review and assess exploration geological studies and reports. Maintains exploration archive and provides inputs to the Exploration Record Data Center.
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Experience)
At least B.Sc. degree in Geology or Geophysics. The candidate should be computer literate and has extensive petroleum geology and hydrocarbon exploration training. Minimum 15 years experience in exploration geology. A broad knowledge of geophysics, seismic interpretation and well-site geological experience would be an asset. SENIOR EXPLORATION GEOPHYSICIST
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Experience)
At least B.Sc. degree in Geophysics, or Geology and Geophysics. The candidate should be computer literate and has extensive petroleum geophysics and hydrocarbon exploration training. At least 15 years experience in oil industry exploration, geophysics, mainly seismic exploration, with a major oil company. Works under Assistant Manager Exploration supervision, but also is given as much latitude possible in carrying out his work to achieve effective monitoring of local geophysical activities. Liaises on geophysics / seismology between QP and other organizations.
Primary Purpose of the Job
To monitor, control and supervise the geophysical activities of foreign oil companies working in Qatar. To undertake exploration geophysical responsibilities related to the Corporation’s exploration / appraisal activities in the retained and granted acreage. To be the focal point for liaising geophysical matters with various bodies, inside and outside Qatar, with emphasis on the concession companies and their exploration activities. To interpret and evaluate seismic data to produce analyzed reports, maps and brief studies. To establish specifications and requirements for contracted seismic and other geophysical data acquisition and monitors the performance of Contractors accordingly. Maintains geophysical archives and provides inputs to the Exploration Record Data Center. To provide geophysical advice and exchange geophysical information.
SENIOR PETROPHYSICAL ENGINEER
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Experience)
B.Sc. in Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering, Physics or similar related subject, with extensive petrophysical training. The candidate should be computer literate. At least 15 years experience in Oil industry practicing petrophysical analysis, for hydrocarbon reservoirs. Works under the supervision of Assistant Manager Exploration, but has his own work methods in accordance with general direct departmental policies and goals and specialised technical procedures and standards. Enjoys considerable independence because of the specialist nature of work, the success of which can only be measured after its conclusion and implementation of recommendations.
Primary Purpose of the Job
To plan, supervise, coordinate and control the petrophysical exploration, appraisal and delineation data collection. Interpret, analyze and evaluate the petrophysical data to predict the presence of hydrocarbons in the wells drilled under the Exploration Department supervision for calculating oil and / or gas in-place and for conducting reservoir studies required for establishing appropriate appraisal and delineation plans for the newly discovered Oil and Gas fields, or for promoting exploration areas.
EXPLORATION GEOLOGIST

At least B.Sc. degree in Geology or Geophysics. The candidate should be computer literate and has extensive petroleum geology and hydrocarbon exploration training. Minimum 12 years experience in exploration geology. A broad knowledge of geophysics, seismic interpretation and well-site geological experience would be an asset. Works under Assistant Manager Exploration / Head of Exploration supervision, but also must be capable of working independently to achieve effective supervision of local exploration appraisal and delineation activities, including the detailed execution of exploration programmes and liaison on exploration geology, between QP and other organizations.

PETROLEUM ENGINEER
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Experience)
At least B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering or another related engineering discipline, e.g. Mechanical Engineering supplemented with industry courses in wells drilling, testing, downhole equipments and well intervention technologies. Training to use software applications in the pertinent fields is essential.
Minimum 12 years experience as a Petroleum Engineer in all aspects of well drilling, testing, completion and workover activities, inclusive of job design, implementation and extensive on-site experience. Also, well performance modeling software and interpretation.
Expected to work independently with minimum supervision in accordance with engineering standards and QP approved department policies, guidelines and procedures. Work related to other departments and foreign companies must be reviewed and approved by supervisor.
Primary Purpose of the Job
Acts as a technical expert for all downhole activities, such as exploration/appraisal drilling, well completion, gas-lift, acid stimulation and wells abandonment. Reviews methodology for the well drilling, completion of wells and ensures EPSA/DPSA operators are using state-of-the-art technology. Monitors exploration/appraisal wells testing and performance and proposes suitable measures to ensure optimum testing. Stays abreast of and advises EX management on possible changes to current wellbore design, testing and completion programmes, gas-lift design etc.. Works with other departments to exchange ideas on the latest technologies required to improve well drilling, completion and testing deliverability.
SENIOR RESERVOIR ENGINEER
Primary Purpose of the Job
Engages in the analysis of reservoir data and monitors the ongoing and approved work programs. Works with joint venture (PSA) partners in optimising field development. Follows up reservoir and well performance and prepares, jointly with the PSA operators, detailed integrated development plans for both matured and underdeveloped hydrocarbon resources. Undertakes detailed studies adopting most effective tools and techniques, constructs new reservoir simulation models, as well as reviewing and carrying out sensitivity studies on existing simulation models to optimise development plans. Analyses proposed development and maintenance programs, data gathering programs, recommends alternatives to achieve optimum recovery and monitors field implementation.
Qualifications
B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering supplemented with industry courses in petroleum engineering with strong computer skills and excellent written and spoken English. Advanced degree (M.Sc. / Ph.D.) is preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 15 years experience with at least the last 8 years as a practicing Reservoir Engineer in an oil company, a large part of which should have been in reservoir simulation studies.
Should be able to construct new models using numerical simulation packages such as Eclipse and VIP as well as evaluate and run existing models for field development. Sound knowledge of classical reservoir engineering techniques and experienced with computerized well test analysis using numerical and analytical packages such as Saphir and Pansystem or similar packages. Familiarity with other relevant packages such as MBal, Prosper, DSS, OFM, mapping and geostatistics will be an advantage. Experience in usual PC and Unix Workstation software. Knowledge of compositional simulation and experience with Enhanced Oil Recovery methods will also be an advantage.
Expected to work independently with minimum supervision and have excellent communication skills as well as able to communicate effectively with other disciplines in the team.
RESERVOIR ENGINEER
Primary Purpose of the Job
Carry out reservoir engineering analysis and studies to ensure that reservoirs are being developed and managed in the most optimum manner. Review and update existing reservoir models based on new data and if required construct suitable new models with available data. Ensure that sufficient and reliable data on reservoir characteristics and performance is obtained and analysed so as to improve reservoir characterization. Estimate hydrocarbons in place, forecast reservoir behaviour and serve as a basis for special studies and programmes designed to maximise oil recovery in assigned reservoirs. Identifies reservoirs requiring study and participates in such studies involving close liaison with specialists in other disciplines (e.g. Geologists, Petrophysicists) and the running of computer simulation models to process and analyse required data. Updates reservoir and well-files and data bases and advises operators of required tests, test intervals and test sample acquisition methods.
Qualifications
B.Sc. in Petroleum or a related Engineering discipline supplemented with industry courses in petroleum engineering. Have strong computer skills and excellent in communication, both written and spoken.
Experience
At least 12 years experience including 1-2 years at well site in a leading operating oil company as a Reservoir Engineer in all aspects of reservoir development including testing, modeling, sampling and related areas.
Works according to specialized technical and professional standards with considerable independence in devising method or approach to particular studies and problems. High level of communication (both verbal and writing skills) and interpersonal skills.
Required to have a broad theoretical and practical knowledge within his discipline and have a working knowledge of the other technical disciplines within his team. Extensive experience of reservoir simulation using Eclipse or VIP. Experience of other related software for well-test analysis (Saphir / Pansystem), OFM, PVT, etc. Experience of Petrel, Prosper and compositional modeling would be an advantage.
Ability to work with limited supervision and work effectively in teams. Able to integrate disparate data and analysis from a variety of sources and technical disciplines into a coherent working reservoir model. Ability to initiate and coordinate in-house, laboratory and specialist consultant activities within his discipline.
SENIOR PETROLEUM ENGINEER
Primary Purpose of the Job

At least 15 years experience as a Petroleum / Drilling Engineer in all aspects of well completion and workover activities, inclusive of job design, implementation and extensive on-site experience. Also, well performance modeling software and interpretation.
Expected to work independently with minimum supervision in accordance with engineering standards and approved policies and procedures. Should be a recognized authority in his discipline with detailed academic knowledge integrated with significant practical experience in areas such as artificial lift (gas lift & ESP), completion and stimulation design well monitoring. Have good working knowledge of all relevant software applications in his discipline, such as Prosper, Gap, OFM. In addition, the incumbent is required to have an in-depth knowledge of the other disciplines within the department.
Successful track record in planning, organizing and execution of significant studies and projects, with sound understanding of economics and risk analysis is required. Excellent communication skill (both oral and written) and be able to communicate effectively with the other discipline specialists in teams.

GEOLOGIST
Primary Purpose of the Job
To monitor and follow up the geological activities of PSA oil companies operating in Qatar. Monitor and report progress of field development activities and carry out geological data collection, analysis, interpretation, mapping and modelling as required. To build and maintain geological databases for PSA oilfields.
Qualifications
B.Sc. in Geology with industry courses in geological and log interpretations, and geological computer modeling / mapping software. Training to use software applications in the pertinent fields is essential. M.Sc is preferred.
Experience
Over 12 years experience, with at least 2 years of field/site experience, in a leading operating oil company as a Geologist involved in all aspects of drilling, evaluation, and reservoir quality, inclusive of well trajectory design, logging, implementation and on-site experience. Experience of geological static modeling software and interpretation using Petrel, IRAP-RMS, etc.
Required to have a broad academic and practical knowledge within his discipline and have a working knowledge of the other disciplines within the department. Ability to integrate disparate data and analyses from a variety of sources and disciplines into a coherent working project. Expected to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to initiate and coordinate in-house, laboratory and specialist consultant activities within his discipline.
SENIOR GEOLOGIST
Primary Purpose of the Job
To monitor, control and supervise the geological and geophysical activities of PSA companies working in Qatar. To coordinate and control geological, geophysical & petrophysical data collection for oil & gas wells of all hydrocarbon resources for PSA operated oil fields. To analyze and evaluate these data and to establish most suitable geological models for utilization in simulation. To carry out independent studies and to review and assess geological and geophysical studies, models and reports carried out by companies. To monitor drilling activities.
Qualifications
B.Sc. degree in Geology or Geophysics with extensive petroleum geology training. Should be computer literate and have performed extensive work on mapping and modeling software. M.Sc is preferred.
Experience
Over 15 years of experience as a Geologist with a broad knowledge in all aspects of carbonate geology, geophysics, seismic and well log interpretation, well completion and workover activities. Well-site experience and supervisory experience of 2 to 3 years is required.
Due to the complex nature of the job, expected to work independently with minimum supervision in accordance with department policies and procedures. Be able to communicate effectively with other specialists within a multi-disciplinary team.
Should be a recognized authority in his discipline with detailed academic knowledge integrated with significant practical experience. In addition, the incumbent is required to have an in-depth knowledge of the other disciplines within the department. Ability to optimally handle uncertainty and use of geo-statistics.
Be fully conversant and have good working knowledge of all relevant computer applications in his discipline, including geo-modeling software such as Petrel and IRAP/RMS. Additionally, a working understanding of the software used by the other disciplines in the department is required.
SENIOR PETROPHYSICAL ENGINEER
Primary Purpose of the Job
Senior Specialist engaged in planning, supervising, coordinating and controlling the collection, analysis and evaluation of petrophysical data necessary to predict the presence of hydrocarbons (oil & gas) in wells drilled, for calculations of oil and gas reserves and for reservoir studies in order to assist in formulating appropriate field development plans. Provides technical expertise and advice in the acquisition, analysis and interpretation of all petrophysical data for the PSA field, including open and cased hole log data, production logging, coring and core analysis.
Qualifications
B.Sc. in Science / Engineering. Advanced degree would be an advantage.
Experience
At least 15 years varied industry experience in an operational environment with 1 to 2 years of wellsite experience and 2 to 3 years of supervisory experience.
Required to be a recognized authority in his discipline with detailed academic knowledge integrated with significant practical experience. In addition, the incumbent is required to have an in-depth knowledge of the other disciplines within the department.
Be fully conversant and have working knowledge of all relevant software applications in his discipline. Additionally, a working understanding of the software used by the other disciplines in the team is required. Ability to independently perform analysis and interpretation of log data obtained by service company / contractors, including all types of wireline logs, LWD and production logs.
Good knowledge of coring operation as well as core analysis – both routine and special (SCAL) analysis. Ability to integrate core and log data with other sub-surface information to support the team in constructing robust reservoir models.
Due to the complex nature of the job, substantial self-reliance and the ability to work with a high degree of independence are required. Ability to integrate disparate ambiguous data and analyses from a variety of sources and disciplines into a coherent working project with comprehensive understanding and ability to optimally handle uncertainty.
