Senior Geophysicist
Primary Purpose of the Job
Coordinates and controls the acquisition of geological data by joint venture companies and
constructs, updates and evaluates geological models in support of reservoir
characterization and reservoir simulation studies.
Participates in preparation of QP's geological data acquisition tenders for assigned field(s),
participates in evaluation of bids and recommendation to award contract as required by the
department. Also is aware of, and when appropriate, participates in and safeguards QP 's
interests in all geosciences tenders and contracts with joint venture companies.
Keeps department management apprised on the status of ongoing geological studies and
critical geological operations through technical presentations and briefings as required on a
daily or regular basis.
Summary of Major Duties and Responsibilities
a) Conducts reservoir geology studies, develops sound geological data sets and assesses
geological models for the optimum development and production of gas reservoirs.
b) Plans, directs and controls both consultant and new venture company activities in
matters related to gas-field production geology.
c) Prepares scope of work along with other specialties in the team for required
geological modeling and reservoir characterization studies; obtains necessary budget
approval and exercises financial authority at the level established by management for
this position. Also assists in the completion of the appropriate contracts, and ensures
that such studies are fulfilled in a timely and technically competent manner and within
the allowable budget.
d) Monitors on-going drilling activities of gas field operators and correlates drilling
results with the model.
e) In coordination with team members ensures optimum data acquisition by gas
operators for the efficient reservoir development and management program of the gas
fields . Such data would include, but not be limited to seismic, geological,
petrophysical (both open hole and cased) coring, fluid sampling, well test and
production data.
t) Ensures that optimum geological and reservoir evaluation data are acquired by gas
operators for proper evaluation of other reservoirs or development objectives within
the stratigraphic column. This activity may require coordination with other
departments within QP.
g) Evaluates and give technical recommendations on studies done by QP technical
service providers.
h) Contributes to the establishment of guidelines and standards and participates in the
development of corporate multi-disciplinary databases that are in alignment with
corporate data base requirements, policies and plans.
i) Works effectively with geoscientists, reservoir engineers, petroleum and drilling
engineers in the team and the department.
j) Serves as QP's authorised geoscience contact for responding to joint venture company
inquiries on geological matters, studies by shareholder companies, well-site
operational geological problems and for advising on action requirements on behalf of
QP.
k) Ensures usage of the QP and State of Qatar standard measurement units and by gas
operators.
I) Updates and maintains gas field geoscience data sets in LandMark/Openworks
database to ensure data consistency and integrity.
m) In co-ordination with senior reservoir engineers, assesses the allocation of new gas
resources to new venture companies and to contribute to the establishment of
geological parameters to be used in evaluation of such resources and projects.
n) Provides required support to gas operators and new venture companies in matters
related to core handling and core processing requirements by liaising with QP's
Geology Lab staff.
0) Participates in ensuring that relevant environmental and safety standards are enacted
for the QP's ticld(s) such as fluid injection and coring operations and activities under
the department' s area of responsibility
p) Identities, develops and implements in-house geological training and continues to
participate at the required level in the ongoing training and development of Qatari
geologists.
q) Provides mentoring and guidance to Geologists of less experience in the Department
Principal Accountabilities
• Performs in-house geo logic studies for determination of reservoir geologic parameters
on the field-wide basis, and project basis, for use in geologic models and reservoir
engineering models used by reservoir engineers for field development decisions. The
reservoir characterization studies and other related activities of the position are the key
role of this position.
• The responsibility of steering, guiding and monitoring implementation of the
geological aspects of field development plans of the Joint Venture and DPSA projects
on a technical basis is a fundamental aspect of the job.
• Participation and monitoring of the studies conducted by the consultants and/or JV
partners is ano ther important aspect of the job.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
• At least 15 yea rs of experience in the Oil and Gas industry practicing relevant
geological and petrophysical analysis, for hydrocarbon reservoirs.
• SSc or MS in Geology.
• Field development and reservoir characterization background are highly recommended.
• Carbonate reservoir experience is highly recommended .
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Problem Solving
The responsibilities of this position involve complex fully integrated decision-making
process requiring substantial experience of local and regional geologic conditions and
considerable academic training in many aspects of the geosciences including geology,
geophysics and petrophysical evaluation and integration.
The job holder devises appropriate geological work methods and sets field wide
standards and guidelines to address complex geological problems and reservoir issues
affecting the reservoir development outcomes.
The job holder shall supervise, mentor and guide the activities of more junior
geologists based on standard supervisory practices and will be guided by QP policy and
relevant professional standards.
The relevant decisions and actions concerning the specialist Geologist acti vities arc
generally made independently and the wider strategic decisions and actions are made
after review and approval of the Division Head.
Decision Accountability
The job is accountable for identifying and advising QP of the presence and amount of
hydrocarbons in wells drilled and the models that are based on these results; and for
providing ongoing interpretation, evaluation and reliable foundation necessary for
technical studies which are required for establishment of field development plans. The
reservoir characterization and studies conducted by the job holder is a key to optimal
development of the field. Any error in analysis of the information at hand can lead to
inefficient development of the field which can have great negative impact on the company
revenue stream in the future .
Budget Dimensions
The job, through its specialist Geologist defining role in the resource development
cycle , is necessarily partly responsible for the Gas Field Geological resources. Steering
and Implementation of the field wide Geological programs that are part of the
development plans of the Joint Ventures and DPSA entail expenditure ofhundreds of
millions of QR and directly impacts estimation and management of the Hydrocarbons
in Place that ultimately generate large multiples thereof in cash flow to the company.
Senior Petroleum Engineer
Primary Purpose of the Job
Acts as technical expert on Drilling/Completion activities to scrutinise, monitor and report on
drilling/completion plans and programs/activities carried out by concessionaires for the
development of North Field gas resources.
Identifies designs and ensure execution of drilling/completion act ivities, adopting most
effective tools and technologically advanced techniques. Proposes ways and means to
improve the conducted work and/or to enhance its utilisation.
Monitors the wells programs with respect to drilling. coring, completion and testing and
reviews proposed programs/amendments to ensure compliance with drilling completion
requirements and guidelines.
Works with specialists of foreign partners/shareholders. DPSA and Joint Venture companies
for setting Drilling/Completion action plans for the existing and new ventures. Ensures
Drilling/Completion operational practices employed by DPSA and Joint Venture companies
are best practices that employ the most technologically suitable solutions which will
adequately resolve perceived drilling operations problems and allow safe cost effective and
timely implementation of the work programs.
Keeps Head of Well Operations fully appraised on implementation and the status of ongoing
Drilling/Completion operations through technical presentat ions and briefings as required on a
daily or regular basis.
Summary of Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides expert technical advice and recommendation on drilling/completion matters to QP Gas
Operations and for concessionaires developing the North Field gas resources.
2. Identifies designs and ensure execution of dr illing/complet ion activities adopting most
effective tools and technologically advanced techniques. Proposes ways and means to
improve the conducted work and/or to enhance its utilisation.
3. Follow up. reviews and monitors concessionaires daily drilling/completion activities. provides
same with necessary historical dada and comments on their proposed or on-going drilling
projects.
4. Attends adhoc operations/drilling meetings as assigned by supervisor to discuss progress and
disseminate information related to all drilling. testing. completion and workover programmes
currently being carried out by concessionaires.
5. Monitors, analyses and reports on-going approved drilling/completion programmes being carried
out by Gas Operations and concessionaires. Verities that on-going work is in keeping with
approved plans and programmes and offers advice and suggestions through supervisor, on
significant or recurring operational problems.
6. Participates in the negotiations or liaises/co-ordinales with foreign companies to planning and
executing required drilling/completion programmes. Monitors on-going operations to ensure
approved plans are carried out within budget and schedule.
7. Participates in preparing adhoc reports for the Department and others.
8. Visits various drilling sites to review operations as necessary as assigned by supervisor.
9. Ensures drilling/completion operations executed by concessionaires are carried out in good
international standards taking into account safety and environment.
10. Maintains current knowledge of state-of-the-art drilling/completion methods. equipment/tools and
materials by reading various industry and trade journals and publications on a regular basis and
visiting or receiving vendor or contractor representatives, attending various conferences or symposia as assigned. Ensures the QP departments concerned are advised
on any new methodology or equipment etc that would enhance any current or planned operations.
11 . Participates at the required level in the ongoing training and development of the departme nt's
Qatari employees in the field related to drilling/completion operations.
12. Participates in ensuring that relevant environmental and safety standards are enacted for
the Qr' sfield(s ) drilling work over operations and activities under the department' s area
of responsibility.
13. Works effectively with Geo-scientists, Reservoir Engineers, Petrophysicits and other
Petroleum Engineers.
14. Participates in mentoring and guidance to Qatari & Petroleum Engineers of less
ex perience in the Department.
15. Utilizes the computer programmes on drilling engineering/operations aspects on day-to-day basis
to evaluate and optimize operations accordingly.
16. Implements Operations Database on daily basis to review and evaluate the activities progress and
achievements.

Engineer in all aspects of drilling/completion activities, inclusive of Appraisal,
Development and Workover activities.
• Extensive on-site experience and strong background in well -site operat ional aspects are
primary require ment.
• Up-to-date with respect to new technological advancements in drilling/completion
operations.

Sr. Reservoir Engineer
Primary Purpose of the Job
Undertakes detailed studies initialled proposed by Heads Reservoir Engineering and
approved by North Field management, adopting most effective tools and techniques.
Proposed ways and means to improve the conducted work and / or to enhance its utilization.
Reviews and comments upon reservoir studies and undertakes computer modelling for
conceptual and optimised development plans .Vets and analyses proposed development and
implementation. Analyses basic field data and liaise with operations in what concerns data
gathering program . Monitors drilling programs with respect to logging, coring, testing and
completion and view proposed program/amendments. Reviews and reports on new
techniques in modelling and developing the field. To work jointly with foreign partners for
settling plans for new joint ventures. To follow up reservoir/well/ project performance and
coordinate between different project activities. Prepares detailed! integrated development plans for underdeveloped hydrocarbon resources. To share in defining contractual aspects for
new ventures.
Summary of Major Duties and Responsibilities
Under supervision and guidance of Head of Reservoir Engineering:
1. Undertakes detailed reservoir studies for the North Field for enhancing production,
increasing and better reservoir management recovery.
2. Conducts simulation studies (single well models, sector models) full-field model to
develop conceptual & optimised field development plans.
3. Participates in the study phase required for established optimum development plans for
the North Field.
4. Participates in preparation of action plansfrom development studies conducted for the
North Field.
5. Participates in conducting feasibility studies ofNorth Field projects.
6. Participates in the planning of reservoir studies undertaken by himself, or by consultants,
undertakes liaise with consultants during computer modelling of reservoirs. Analyses
computer results, prepares and present various progress reports to Management.
7. Liaise with other senior engineers in the use and interpretation of results of reservoir
engineering computer softwares such as simulation used in carrying out in-house
reservoir studies. Obtains data relevant to reservoir engineering, conservation and
development and maintains up-to-date.
8. Vets and analyses operations reservoir engineering studies, carried out in-house or by
consultants. Examines proposed development and maintenance programs and
recommends programs to achieve optimum recovery. Includes examining laboratory
analysis results and recommending basic parameters required for conducting studies.
9. Undertakes a variety of reservoir engineering studies. Includes participating in studies and
meetings with operations and service company representatives , evaluating results
identifying and recommending proper correlations for fluids and rock characterization.
10. Monitors field implementation of development plans and evaluates and compares the
results obtained with studies for proper guidance of next actions to be considered.
11. Reviews and studies the operations proposed drilling program from reservoir engineering
point of view to confirm that locations are optimised. Liases on drilling programs with Sr.
Drilling Engineer and monitors adherence to original plan with respect to logging, coring,
test and completion. Reviews proposed amendments and recommends their acceptability.
12. Participates at the required level in the ongoing training and development of Qatari
engineers in the department in fields related to reservoir engineering.
13. Carries out other similar or related duties such as, analysing and commencing on reports
and letters referred by general management related to reservoir technical matters and
drafting replies. Keeping abreast of developments in the reservoir and petroleum
engineering field, reviewing and reporting on new techniques and recommending
improvements to methods used in QP and preparing various regular and adhoc reports as
required.
14. Identifies grey areas in the information / data available and sets plans to minimize/
eliminate the impact ofthese uncertainties on development programs.
15. Participates in activities required to prepare detailed development plans for new ventures
with foreign partners.
16. Participates in providing the technical support to preliminary and final engineering
designs for new ventures with foreign partners.
17. Initiates studies to define reservoir forces and impact on development.
18. Maintains and improves reservoir engineering data base to be used in the reservoir work
dilation model including well test request completion and production data and offshore

• Preference would be given to candidates who demonstrate specialist leadership skills to
enable them to competently play the required Reservoir engineering leadership role in
dealing with operating companies and partners.

is responsible for the optimum production operations and for maximizing the ultimate gas
resource recovery. Steering and implementation of the field wide data acquisition programs
that are part of the development plans of the Joint Venture and DPSA projects entail
expenditure of hundreds of millions of QR and directly impacts management of the gas and
condensate in place and its optimum recovery which ultimately generate large multiples
thereof in cash flow for the company.

In addition to the projects that are directly under supervision of this specialist Reservoir
engineering position, other Reservoir engineering projects that are undertaken by the DPSA
and Joint Venture companies such as RasGas, Qatargas-I,-II -3/4, DEL and Pearl GTL
amount to millions of QR and require evaluation and input from the holder of this position.
